From Paper Scroll to Huge Animated Screen

For some reason, Chinese New Year made me think back to my time in China this past summer. I remembered visiting the China Art Museum, which had this HUGE exhibit – it was a floor to ceiling screen that was around 500 ft wide. It was an animated, 3D version of a painting known as “Riverside Scene at the Qingming Festival” by 12th century artist Zhang Zeduan. I found it amazing how intricate the painting was, and how the creators of this animated version were able to interpret how the people and objects on the original thin, fragile scroll would move.
