Art in Ad Places is a campaign created by
Brooklyn-based artists Caroline Caldwell and RJ Rushmore to replace ads in NYC with art pieces. In an interview explaining their motivation, Caldwell said, “The cornerstone of this project is the idea that public space is shared by everybody but only a few rich corporations decide what messages we are exposed to. If everybody had a say in what public space looks like it would be a lot more dignified.” This campaign is an example of the type of subversion that public art can create, and it has the power to send powerful messages to people who encounter it.https://www.thenation.com/article/these-new-yorkers-are-covering-advertisements-with-art/
