A new exhibit, “Breaking News: Turning the Lens on Mass Media,” was just opened to the public in LA this week. The piece looks at hundreds of media posts and publications in history. However, the artists took it a step further and altered each image to reflect the realities behind the events of the past. As you can see below, the artists took photos of normal life and inserted images of things as horrific as being related to the Vietnam war to show the extent to which history is not perfect and how media can be misleading in that regard. I found this piece very interesting especially after taking on our last project discussing contemporary world issues. One world issue is media and how misleading it can be. This piece offers a different view on history, and in some ways, it was disturbing, and in others, it was weirdly refreshing.
