Over break I went to Cartagena, Colombia with a few friends. I’ve traveled to South America quite a bit but every time I go to a new city or country I am always struck by how different it is from anything else I’ve ever seen. Cartagena specifically not only had a lot of high rises (which was quite different from Lima, where I went last year) but the old city consisted of a lot of colorful 2-3 story houses with beautiful balconies. My friend and I thought it reminded us of New Orleans, which was interesting because while both European in heritage, Cartagena is Spanish not French. But all in all it was an atheistically beautiful architecture experience for me.
